Bye Bye Binky

Last Sunday, Tyler and I were talking about when to officially start taking Addy off her bink.  We were going to wait til after all the big life changes that are coming with graduation and moving and all.  But, I think she overheard us because she came up to me said, "I'm gonna put my binky in the garbage!" I was shocked and thought that it would not happen. I explained to her several times what would happen if she put it in the garbage. The garbage truck would come and take it, it was her last one so it would be all gone, she couldn't have it to sleep with anymore, etc. She ended up making the decision to throw it away. Tyler and I were super nervous for church. Our church starts at 12:30 and 12:00 is Addy's nap time, so we have always used her binky to help control her and settle her down. She did surprisingly well and didn't ask for it once! Addelyn went right down for her nap after church and bedtime that night! I was so excited! The next day was a little harder, she asked for it a couple times at nap time and I asked her where she put it. She said with a really sad voice "I put it in the garbage, I need to go get it". I told her that it was all gone cause she put it in the garbage and she said "Oh no! The garbage truck took it". So, I agreed and she went to sleep. I did take it out of the garbage because it is her "Mute Button" binky and I want to save it in her baby box for memories. Nap time takes a little more effort in putting her down. We now have to read a book, say prayers, and give her "back tickles" (back scratch). Luckily, she is still taking naps. That was my biggest hesitation for getting her to give up the bink! Addelyn has been great! I am so impressed with her! She is just growing up WAY too fast!
The first night without binky... she needed all her naked barbies for comfort.  :)

The second night she needed all her books to sleep on top of.

On Thursday we went to Target and she got to pick out her own nail polish for a prize for doing such a good job!  Of course, she picked the ugliest color, but she loves it!  It's green!

We're so proud of you Addy!
