In February I decided that after talking about it for over a year, I would finally get into action and do the couch to 5k thing. It was brutal at first. I have never been one for running. In middle school when we had to run a mile for gym class I was always one of the last to finish... embarrassing. Luckily, the couch to 5k starts you out nice and slow. Even though I thought I would die I actually started to like it. I liked the fact that in just 5 weeks I could run for 20 mins straight! So, my friend, Marissa, signed up with me to run my first ever 5k! We did a few 3 mile runs the week leading up to the 5k and they went super well. Saturday came and I was super nervous. It was my first experience of anything like it and I was just nervous. We stated out well and then I got a huge cramp in the middle of my stomach and side stitches. The cramp in my stomach would not go away regardless of slowing it down. Looking back I am super mad that we had to walk for part of it, but I was dying. I was in serious pain and my breathing was super shallow. Any way, I did it. I did a 5k! I wish I could say I ran the whole thing, but there will be a next time! I plan to keep running, hopefully improve my time and learn how to breathe right to prevent the cramps/side stitches. My time was 35:19. I am totally okay with it. It was a good experience, and now I know I can do it! When I was all done Addy came up to me and said "Good job, Momma! You did it, Momma!" Made me feel so good! Tyler was a great support and took pictures for me! Now, for the fun part... pictures! No one looks good when they run, so don't judge me. :)
Pre-race! Marissa won an awesome gym bag from a drawing!
